About

As a card-carrying member of the Baby Boomer generation, I’m now part of that huge cohort that is winding its way through the over-50 phase of life. I first heard the use of the word “cohort” many years ago while watching a PBS special on the Baby Boomers.

I believe this was when the first of the Boomers were turning 40 back during the 1980’s. Back then, that was the point of no return for passing into old age.

An image from that PBS special that vividly sticks in my mind is an animation of a rabbit passing through a python. It was supposed to symbolize how the Baby Boomer cohort passes through the aging process and the ever increasing impact that generation will have on American society.

Being born somewhere in the middle of the Boomer pack, I along with others of my generation, are able to see what lies in store for us as we past the 50 year mark and become “junior senior citizens”.

Since I’m writing this on Day 1 of this blog, I don’t yet have a complete vision of what it will eventually be about — only a general idea. So at this point, I’m going to focus on the effects of aging on the human body and my human body in particular.

Some of the things I’m confronting I have been dealing with for more than a decade now.

Things such as osteoarthritis and lower back pain. Unfortunately, these conditions have only gotten worse as I’ve aged, but I’m determined to find innovative ways for coping with them. I realize that there is no way to reverse these effects of aging, but I’m convinced that there are effective ways to both slow down their progression as well as lessen their impact on my quality of life.

So for now, that’s what I’ll record in the pages of this blog — my coping strategies for dealing with aging, along with the occassional tip for uncovering “The Fountain of Youth“.

It’s out there, if you open your mind to it…
